AFP-NH Criticizes Cash Grab Battery Tax
Concord, NH – Americans for Prosperity-New Hampshire (AFP-NH) expressed disappointment today after the House passed HB 1602, which would establish a battery recycling program and grow the government at the expense of taxpayers.
Sarah Scott, AFP-NH deputy state director, released the following statement:
“HB 1602 is a blatant cash grab dressed up as ‘recycling,’ and the branding shouldn’t fool Granite Staters. This bill will force costly, top-down mandates on manufacturers with no guardrails on how it could be passed along, and it will be passed along to taxpayers. That means higher prices at the register for everyday products that families rely on.”
“AFP-NH is disappointed that lawmakers just voted for a hidden tax on batteries—one that won’t show up as a line item but will hit Granite Staters all the same. Higher prices, bigger government, and less transparency are the exact opposite of what New Hampshire residents expect and deserve.”
